SENATOR LUJAN THANKS THE GUAM LEGISLATURE FOR CHOOSING TRANSPARENCY WITHIN GDOE AND ENHANCING TAMUNING RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

(Hagåtña, Guam) – On the fifth day of the February session, the 37th Guam Legislature passed Bill No.48-37(COR) and Bill No.212-37(LS). Both bills are authored by Senator Jesse Lujan with the goal of improving the quality of life for the youth and residents of Guam.  

I want to thank my colleagues for rising in support of Bill No.48-37(COR) and Bill No.212-37(LS). Both of these bills seek to improve the welfare of our children and residents of Guam,” the Republican lawmaker stated. 

Bill No.48-37(COR), as amended by the Committee on Human Resources, Hagåtña Revitalization, Regional Affairs, Public Libraries, Telecommunications, Technology and Federal and Foreign Affairs; and further amended on the Floor, is “AN ACT TO ADD A NEW § 3134 TO ARTICLE 1 OF CHAPTER 3, TITLE 17, GUAM CODE ANNOTATED, RELATIVE TO MANDATING THE CONSISTENT ONLINE POSTING OF REPORTS FOR EVERY SCHOOL INSPECTION CONDUCTED TO BE ON A DEDICATED GOVERNMENT OF GUAM WEBSITE.”

The measure aims to digitally inform parents and relevant parties about the current sanitary and safety conditions, as well as the instruction standards of Guam’s public schools and is co-sponsored by Senator Joanne Brown, Senator Sabina Flores Perez, Senator William A. Parkinson, Vice Speaker Tina Rose Muña Barnes, Senator Dwayne T.D. San Nicolas, Senator Frank Blas, Jr., Senator Joe S. San Agustin, Senator Chris Barnett, Senator Christopher M. Dueñas, Senator Telo T. Taitague, Senator Thomas J. Fisher, Senator Roy A. B. Quinata, Senator Amanda L. Shelton, and Speaker Therese M. Terlaje. 

Bill 48 not only ensures transparency and accountability within the Guam Department of Education, but also acts as a moral imperative in guaranteeing the well-being and educational environment of our students,” Lujan voiced.

Bill No.212-37(LS), as amended by the Committee on Health, Land, Justice, and Culture; and further amended on the Floor, is “AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE TRANSFER OF A SEVEN HUNDRED SEVEN (707) SQUARE METER PORTION OF LOT NO. 5173-NEW-3 FROM THE CHAMORRO LAND TRUST COMMISSION TO THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR OF TAMUNING-TUMON-HARMON.”

The legislation seeks to enrich the lives of residents in Tamuning, Tumon, and Harmon by facilitating the transfer of administrative jurisdiction over a specific tract of land, and unlocking opportunities for community development, and is co-sponsored by Senator Christopher M. Dueñas, Senator Telo T. Taitague, Vice Speaker Tina Rose Muña Barnes, Senator Chris Barnett, Senator Dwayne T.D. San Nicolas, and Senator Joe S. San Agustin.

“Bill 212 represents a crucial step towards land optimization, enhanced recreational facilities, and ultimately aligns with our shared vision for a vibrant and accessible community for all,” Lujan said.

Bill No.48-37(COR) was the first legislation discussed on the session floor and Bill No.212-37(LS) was the 3rd to the last legislation discussed on the session floor. Both bills gained the bipartisan support of all fifteen lawmakers in the 37th Guam Legislature and were unanimously passed.

“Once again, I want to express my gratitude to the members of the 37th Guam Legislature for choosing transparency for our schools and enhancing recreational activities for our island community. By unanimously supporting Bill 48 and Bill 212, we are taking significant steps towards a brighter future for Guam,” Lujan concluded.
