SENATOR LUJAN SENDS FOIA TO GVB

(Hagåtña, Guam) – On Monday, April 3, 2023, Senator Jesse Lujan sent a Freedom of Information Act request to the President and CEO of the Guam Visitors Bureau seeking documents pertaining to an investigation being conducted on members of the GVB Board of Directors.

“I knew there was a report sent to the Office of the Public Auditor regarding the investigation, so I sent the FOIA, requesting the Business Risk Compliance and Control Committee report showing the findings of the investigation,” Lujan said.

In preparation for the oversight hearing, scheduled to be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023, Lujan said he wanted to have insight into the problems facing the leadership as well as a better idea on how to address and resolve these issues.

“Although I didn’t get to have the oversight hearing held as I initially planned two months ago, I am grateful that Chairperson Shelton decided to hold it now. In saying that, I want to be as prepared as possible for tomorrow. I sent the FOIA to GVB so I can get a better understanding of the situation. That way, I can know how to best approach the challenges, address the concerns, and resolve the issues,” Senator Lujan voiced.

As of Wednesday, April 5, 2023, President and CEO, Carl T.C. Gutierrez complied with Senator Lujan’s FOIA request, stating that as the operational and administrative head of GVB, it is his duty to release the requested report and make the findings public.

“We need to rebuild our tourism industry, and we need to rebuild it right. This means working with the key players of our industry to make sure our main economic engine is running smoothly and properly,” Senator Lujan concluded.
