Senator-Elect Lujan meets with the Chief of Police and Director of Customs & Quarantine as he prepares draft legislation to fight the crystal meth plague on Guam

Senator-Elect Jesse Lujan held separate fact-finding meetings with the Director of Customs & Quarantine, Ike Peredo, and Chief of Police, Stephen Ignacio this week. The meetings primarily focused on what can be done to combat the serious crystal meth problem the island is facing. Lujan is working on draft legislation to combat the crystal meth epidemic on Guam.

” I really appreciated the directness and candor of both Director Peredo and Chief Ignacio. It was clear to me they are committed to doing all they can to help fight the menace that has infiltrated our island. They both shared the challenges their separate departments face.” Senator-Elect Lujan stated.

” Fighting the crystal meth plague on the island is one of my main priorities and I started working on draft legislation immediately after I was elected. Now, after my meetings with Chief Ignacio & Director Peredo, I can continue my work on the legislation and ensure it meets the needs and challenges both departments are facing”. Lujan continued.

“We must do more to stop the crystal meth plague that faces us. We need to do more to stop the drugs from slipping through our ports and we need to be able to track down and arrest the dealers who are selling this poison in our community”. We must double our efforts and give the agencies additional tools and resources to make sure this happens”. I will be introducing legislation in the first two weeks of January to do just this. Lujan concluded.
