Lujan: Chinese aggression demands US-Philippines cooperation

This week, Sen. Jesse Anderson Lujan introduced a resolution supporting Guam Del. James Moylan’s efforts in the U.S. House of Representatives to further affirm the importance of the relationship between the United States and the Republic of the Philippines – especially in relation to Guam.

Lujan’s resolution, No. 260-37 (LS), not only highlights the importance of continuing the commitment of open communication between the two governments, but also reiterates the need for unification when it comes to our island’s elected leaders communicating with the federal government on this topic, Lujan’s office said in a press release. To these ends, Lujan is quoted as saying, “In this case, every member of the 37th Guam Legislature should fully support House Resolution 837.”

In the House submission, Moylan asks the U.S. government to reaffirm its unwavering commitment to the Philippines in light of the growing encroachment of the People’s Republic of China upon the Philippines. “The United States must steadfastly stand with the Philippines against this bullying and aggression,” Lujan stated in the release dated Nov. 29. The recent actions of the Chinese military have raised concerns and demand solidarity between the U.S. and the Philippines, Lujan said in the release.
