Guam delegate meets United Airlines on traveling inconveniences through Hawaii

Guam congressional delegate James Moylan met with the United Airlines corporate team aiming to address the inconveniences local residents face when traveling through Hawaii.

Moylan stating “Many Guam residents have expressed their concerns with the inconveniences of traveling through Hawaii and have asked that our office step in to seek improvements. These concerns are even more resounding from our manåmko’ or those with disabilities.”

Currently, Guam passengers arriving at the Honolulu International Airport must retrieve their baggage at the carousel, walk through Customs and Border Patrol, take their luggage to the second floor, and finally, re-check their bags.

Passengers are then required to go through the entire TSA process before heading to their gate.

Moylan added, “This is an issue where the solutions have many moving parts and will require a collective effort from various parties. Our team will be reaching out to CBP to discuss the potential of reopening a belt in the sterile area of the arrivals section of the airport, which would reduce the walking time for transit passengers. We are also bringing the conversation of a pre-clearance process in Guam to the table to possibly remove the need for one to retrieve their luggage when arriving in Honolulu.”

As KUAM reported, Senator Jesse Lujan reached out to federal and local officials seeking relief for Guam passengers last year. Lujan was able to get the Honolulu transit process streamlined, making it much easier for passengers to travel. But it was short lived.

Now, Moylan seeks to reduce the overall process.
