LUJAN INTRODUCES LEGISLATION TO ENSURE ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY WITH ONLINE REPORTING OF SCHOOL INSPECTIONS

(Hagåtña, Guam) – Today, Senator Jesse Lujan introduced Bill No.48-37 (COR), in an effort to expand transparency and increase accountability.

Bill No.48-37(COR) designates the Guam Department of Education Deputy Superintendent for Assessment and Accountability to execute the online reporting of all school inspections on a government website and the inspected school’s website, within thirty days of the inspection. The legislation also includes accessibility and accommodations, as well as certified instructors among the list of categories to be posted online for public viewing and information gathering.

“Parents deserve to know the conditions of the schools their children are in,” Lujan stated.

The bill was introduced at a time when the 37th Guam legislature came to a general consensus to hold the Guam Department of Education accountable and responsible for the state of the public schools.

“The education of our students is imperative to the success of Guam’s future. We should ensure that the circumstances surrounding such education are acceptable,” Lujan concluded.
